Bumper interchangeability

I've got a '99 (2wd) with a bent front bumper and have an opportunity to get a new '97 bumper cheap. From what I can tell, the '97 will fit on '97 and '98, but the '99-'03 are the same...exactly what is the difference between '97/'98 and '99-'03??? Will it bolt up? Or should I look for a '99-'03 bumper?

Yes it will bolt up but many just prefer the 99+ bumper. The difference is the bumper design from 97-98 to 99-03. I did the reverse of what you want to do

So just the style is different, not how it fits? There is no differnce in the shape of the grill? And it bolts up the same? That would be great! Thanks.

Ahh almost forgot. You will need a differnt grill surround to make it fit correctly

Ok, I was thinking the grill was slightly different, but is there a top filler piece that would work? The '97 bumper has an indentation in the front middle, where the '99 is straight. Did they put the bumpers with indentation on any '99 and up F-150's or Expeditions?

The 99+ has a lower indention in the middle on the top where as the 97-98 bumper is straight across the top but the 97-98 4wdbumper has an indent in the middle front of the bumper (not the top).
