soft brakes
A little help here. I just had my truck (2001 supercrew 4x4) smogged checked yesterday. This is probably unrelated but now my brakes are extremetly soft today. The pedal seems to go all the way to the floor when I come to a complete stop. The fluid level is still at the top and it has fairly new pads on it. I don't seem to hear a vaccum leak at all. I checked around the brake booster and everywhere else. Anybody else seem to have this problem. I only have 60k on the mileage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
changed the master cyl and the back pad (they were due) and bled the brakes. They were feeling real good and I thought alll was well. Until I started the truck and back it out of the garage. they went soft again. What's next?
Look into this as well -
Fords rubber lines are junk. You probably don't have the pressure to work your twin piston system correctly.
Also, make sure the check valve is operational on the booster or you'll have no assist.
These are both cheap fixes. However, -braided lines at-least for the front brakes is a necessity IMO and their a little more expensive, but! -it's your brakes - they should be at their best when we need them
Good Luck

x2!!! as a VFF, we are taught that brake fluid in an ambulance/fire truck is more important than engine oil!!!
mine were doing the same thing a while back and i thought it was the master cylinder as well. turns out one of my brake lines on the rear axle where it enters the drivers side hub was leaking. i would check around your truck for leaks
