Loose steering wheel / column

This 97 F150 4X4 (auto on the column) that I just bought has a very loose steering column. At first I thought it was the tilt but that locks into place fine. It is like the steering wheel is ready to fall off. It has been suggested that the bearings are worn and either those or the steering column needs to be changed. Has anyone come across this?

Just get a new column and in 20 minutes it's done. Save your old one for parts. A replacement column usually does not have the airbag since the salvage yards can get $100+ just for that, so you would need yours
