hey guys i got the viper alarm system installed today and when i go to remote start it up it works fine but after a few seconds it shuts off. i got the xpresskit xpresskey thing and put the key in there and everything but what is going wrong?

is there a special thing to do to remote start it? unlock, lock remote start, unlock, lock? any combination i need to be doing?

i had the same problem. had to change the setting on the tach recognition. did you install it? do you have the installation manual? was a tach wire wired to monitor & verify the vehicle is running? depending on the unit it may have different settings. my DEI system is actually an Avital 5303. it has 3 different settings on tach wire recognition. one is a "virtual tach" just starts it, but there is no way to verify that there is a tach signal to show the alarm the vehicle is running (this is how the installer hooked it up, since he never ran a tach wire). after i ran the tach wire, i changed the setting to monitor through RPM monitoring (supposed to monitor the RPM to verify the truck is running). found out that was wrong & it would run for about 5-7 seconds then shut off. it would continue to do this for 3 attempts, then stop. finally changed the setting to monitor voltage & everything worked.

no i had a shop do it. i decided its not worth it to try and do it by myself

they chagred 200 for the install plus installing my door actuators.

they told me to swing by tomorow morning and they will fix everything.

i hope!

yeah, it's gotta be something minor. just the settings. if they told you to come by i wouldnt even worry about it. it wasnt hard to change the settings, just takes a little getting used to navigate through the menu. but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze. the installer that did mine said he didnt have enough wire to do the tach wire install. but he said if i ran the wire, he would hook it up easily for me. but i ended up just doing it myself.

that's definitely a good price. do you know what unit did they installed? my guy charged me $100 to install. i bought the alarm from ebay. so i paid about the same as you...and you had additional labor for the actuator install. so that's nice.
