OK I did those steps, Removed the MAF sensor and I got stuck... You see the last picture how did he get there.. There are like a island wrench sorta looking but with a hole in the middle.. 2 gold screws or something.. and my MAF sensor faces the side not up! I'll post pics later what I want to get too..

My post from the previous page -

MAF? Pop the MAF wire grommet (the rubber deal) - slide it down the wire harness oohhh - -about 4 inches or so. With a screw driver and at the filter back stop, pry a little on those plastic tabs pulling a little at the same time. She'll pop right out of their.

Because you slid the grommet down first, you'll have enough slack in the wire harness to access the MAF. You'll need saftey torx bits/drivers to disassemble further.

Those are "Safety Torx"

I don't use them myself. I vice gripped them out of there back in 1999 sometime. I replaced w/copper heads.

Yea, it's better than nothing. Electronic cleaner that leaves no residue. Not sure what stuff you used, but most likely it is indeed no residue. Most people probably don't take them apart, - just something I prefer, I want to see what I'm cleaning.

Your alright.

PHEW! lol, the electronic cleaner I used I think doesn't leave residue, it dried up as fast as you can say J-BREW. Thanks man. BTW, is there a 2nd sensor, further down the 2nd plug what is that part?

plug after MAF

i know this is an old thread.. but this is exactly what i wanted to know.. what is that plug in for after the MAF? my truck was running crappy after changing the thermostat and that plug was lose. when i plugged it back in right, the truck ran much better for a while. now its worse than before. i assumed it was the MAF but its an expensive guess.

2000 F150 4x4 w/4.6L
runs kinda rough sometimes, feels like its missing. other times it seems like its running fine but doesn't have as much power as it did before i changed the thermostat. oddly enough it will bury the needle now which it wouldn't before.
So i'm assuming the MAF isn't reading airflow correctly.. but.....

The intake in the back by the door is from a 2001 - Never mind that contraption in front lol.

This is from a 98 4.2L. The v8's share the same type element. Anyway, stock air filters look like the one below, except much cleaner of course lol.

Don't ask

Best filters made for these trucks are from Amsoil. You can't really appreciate the filter unless seen up close.

BUT - The WIX and OEM Motorcraft do a great job. DRY elements are far superior than OILED.
I was wondering is the silver part connected to the cone filter just that original part without the plastic housing? I want to get rid of all the bulky intake on my rig without spending a bunch of money on something like a K&N cold air or something. Also I want to keep the exhaust in tacked and was thinking about putting an inline remote butterfly valve to bypass the muffler every now and then, I live in an apt complex and I don't think the neighbors would appreciate a grumbling truck all the time. Thank you for any help!

Do a Gotts mod to the stock airbox, that will do as much for you as any aftermarket intake and it only costs a few bucks for the required stuff. There's a how-to in the articles forum.

[QUOTE=jbrew;3607983]You know what that is - That round deal comes from those cheap Fram filters. It falls off after awhile and the filter is then BY-PASSED.

I thought that filter looked a little clean lol.

Don't ever buy fram replacement parts. Specially -

PVC valves
Oil Filters
Air Filters

That company needs to be burn't to the ground.

Mine came with a K & N filter. Same filters I use on my Ninja ZX11

Thank you, looks easy enough I'll give it a shot. Is there a more efficient filter to use instead of the motocraft one?
