wheel bearing?????
wheel bearing?????
i am getting a hmming sound that gets loud then gets low is not really speed specific but is only noticible at highway speeds although if i am on a slight right or left turn on the highway it goes away. Could this be a wheel bearing? my brake rotors are warped in the front and also rear most likely. would not think that could be related though. on a side note my gas milage has been getting worse lately also.
not that i can tell i will listen closer next time i am in the truck but if i had to say i side i would say the driver side front. just out curiousity how hard was i to replace them or did you have them replaced at a shop also how many miles did you get out of them.
I had mine replaced before Christmas---I do not have the facilities to do it---but I do have a very good mechanic that I trust...I also had him replace a tie-rod end and upper ball joints, as well. I guess I would say that I had over 90k miles when the one side went.
If you have the facilities and the ability/tools to do it yourself, I am sure that people on this forum will give you great instructions as to how to do it.

Don't know if this is still ongoing or resolved, but did you try rotating the tires? I had the same thing happen to me and thought it was the front diff or wheel bearings but I realized I had neglected to rotate my tires. Problem solved for 15 bucks.
Hey if this is still going on check your brake pads. Mine was doing this and my brake pads were sticking. I thought they were a little tight when I replaced them. Then over time the tabs will rust and grow a little. (WV climate)

it is real easy to replace, if you have the right tools, especially for the axle nut, i have done it on 4 or 5 trucks...i got 210,000 miles out of the orginal one, just make sure you check the rotors and brake pads , might be the best time to replace them also, i didn't do it first and they caused the other new one to go out, brake pad came loose..also make sure the axle seats up against the bearing good.
