Vss Gear Needed

Vss Gear Needed

Well i had new tires put on a month ago and now realize that my spedo is off by quite a bit. I have searched but could find the vss gear that i needed and the local dealer was of no help.

97 f 150 5.4 e40D 4x4 xlt

stock tire size 265/70/17

new 285/70/17 bfg km2s

i found out that i needed a 18 tooth gear

Do you know if this applies to all 97-03's? I'm going to be going to the same size as you, from the same original size, so I guess I'd need the same gear if the truck is set of up the same way. Where are you getting the gear? Also, what gear ratio is your truck? Mine has 3.55's.

99' and later are digital, so yours would be adjusted in the PCM by tuning.

the 97 and 98 have the gear

I got the 18tooth yellow at the ford dealer if you have a 4x4 its the yellow gear two wheel drive is 18 tooth grey. Ill look up the part number for you if you want.


If anyone tells you it wont be much more of a difference they could be right or wrong. My od of my tires 33.2 which is more then a 285 is suppose to so you could feel it shifting weird. Now its all good
