Good Deal on a '99 Lariat??

My lease is up on my 07 here in a few months. Everything will be returned to stock when I turn it in. My plan is to find an older truck that is much easier on my wallet. There was a really nice truck traded in a few days ago. It is a 1999 F-150 Extended Cab Lariat 4x4. It has the 5.4. It is SUPER clean inside and out with approx. 70,000 miles on it. The 3 things that I'm not convinced on yet is that it is only a supercab as I was hoping to get another supercrew, it has 3.55 gears with a non-limited slip rear end, and it is maroon in color with a gold bottom. The color is nice, but I live on 3 miles of gravel and it would never 'look' clean being a darker color. But, I can get it for approx. $6,600. What would you do????

Actually the colors are Dark Torreador Red/Harvest Gold.

Sounds like a fair deal to me.
I'm somewhat prejudiced having driven this one for the last 10 years.

Sounds good man.

The only thing I don't like is the non-limited slip, but I guess the 4x4 makes up for that.

These trucks are really great. You won't be disappointed.

Do you have children or haul a lot of people around? If not, I see no reason for it to be a problem that its a Scab, unless you really really enjoy the extra space. If you do need the extra space for kids/passengers, an OBS Scab isnt exactley the most comfortable thing, but it will do if need be.

As for the non LS rear end, Ive gotten by plenty of times in vehicles without it, although it sure can be a blessing at times. Non LS with 4wd isnt too bad though. But honestly, how hard/expensive is it to add Trac-loc to the rear end on one of these trucks? Especially you, being a technician??? I really dont know the cost, but I cant see it being outragous.?.?.?

As for the color, thats personal preference. 3 miles of dirt road really isnt that much, and while it will show some times, if you keep your speed low for that 3 miles (will add maybe 5 minutes to your overall trip), plus with the gold bottom, I would think you would be pretty good in the clean department.

Hell, Ive actually found out after a few black vehicles and 10 miles to the nearest pavement that you can haul azz and 'outrun' the dust, although I wouldnt suggest 80+ mph to just anyone on gravel.... If its a populated road, or you have other people with you, or children, or a combo of any of those, then sure the heck dont do that.
Youll learn a few tricks with a dark colored vehicle and dirt roads after a while though.

As for the price, a 'super clean' 99 LARIAT with 70K miles, 4wd, and 5.4; I dont think 6600 is too bad at all.

BTW, if you strip your current truck down, let me know, I might buy some parts off you. Whadda ya say we swap my H bar grill for your honeycomb straight up??

I would have no problem swapping grills with you but I need to make sure that with a lease turn-in that will be ok without being fined/penalized.

Adding a locker to the rear-end would be in the plans for sure. I don't really care about the 3.55 gear ratio because I plan on lifting it and going with 37" tires, so 4.88 gears and a locker and I would be good to go!

I'm actually not a technician myself - I do very little wrenching. Just on my own stuff. The 6" lift I put on my truck now is probably the hardest thing I have done myself, and that was pretty easy.

My last truck was a Dark Torreador red powerstroke and it was never clean. Not a huge issue - but compared to my silver truck now it can be pretty dusty/dirty and it really doesn't look too bad. Guess I'll talk to the sales managers again today if I have time and see what they think. It does seem like a pretty good deal -

Oh - it also already has pretty new General Grabber AT/2 tires on it too in a 305/70/R16 I believe. They are a bit oversize from stock but look pretty good!

That was a good deal. I looked at a few 150s before I got my EPD, and most were well above that. The super creww looks pretty good, if the price is right.

Well, that answers the mail on two points, it's a Crew like you wanted and white hides dirt about as well as any color can.

Good luck.

Just out of curiostiy, is there a huge difference in price between buying your current leased F-150 as opposed to looking at an older one? I say this based on the price and all the work in mods you have done to your current F-150. Seems like a shame to have done all that work in mods to the leased F150, only to have to return it all to stock before returning it, only to buy an older F150 which you will probably want to mod as well. Again, just curious here.

That 01 looks pretty clean. I would say if the price is right pull the trigger. If you look at efuehrins it would give you a pretty good idea of where you would be with your lift/4.88s/ and so on. I personally love his truck, and think if you got this I would have a new favorite truck driving around town. (well next to mine of coarse )

efehrin's truck with 38's

Usually your purchase option price is established when you sign your lease.
That would have been two or three years ago.
The bottom has fell out of truck market since then.
I would imagine that a truck coming off lease would be the most expensive truck in the world, to the leasee.

Yea, it sucks. My plan originally was to purchase the lease at the end of it but the buy-out price is going to be around $23,000!! My financial situation has changed quite a bit over the past 2 years and I can't afford that anymore. The '01 seen in the pics is going to be right around $9,400, which is much easier on my pocketbook! I did all the modifications myself, so I'm not out any labor-costs. I already have a few potential local buyers for the suspension lift, tires, programmer, etc. And yes, I want to lift my next truck also - hopefully even bigger.
