I've noticed that sometimes when I start my engine, all the gauges (speedometer, tach, oil pressure, volts, fuel) jump straight to their maximums for a couple of seconds, then go down to their normal readings. Is that normal?

Mine never did for ten years then the gauges started pegging on start up a couple of months ago.

Then I replaced my OEM battery and they stopped pegging.

yea it will do that if you unhook the battery for a while then reconnect it. Even with a good battery.

-replace battery soon-

This is triggered by a drop in battery power making the gauges go back into calibration mode where they "peg out" This also happens when you disconnect the gauges and reconnect them.
