any insight would be appreciated....

my battery light just above the temp guage on the dash was flickering on and off today then noticed the voltage guage was dropping and then i had no juice and left me stalled in the middle lane of a highway at rush hour...

does that light indicate a bad alternator or just bad battery? it's at a shop right now and they'll check it in the morning but i'm too damn curious right now.

It could be either or both.

 

More than likely the alternator, but if the battery is older, get a new one. From my experiences, when the alt went, the lights dimmed, the truck idled (park and drive) higher and a few more little rationing things. When the battery went it cranked hard and the guages did a full sweep as soon as I turned the key.

 

A good shop should charge and load test the battery first, then move on to the charging system.
