Help me out with audio question...

I know this isnt exactly the right place to post this but it deals with my 05 and its probably the most viewed forum.

I have the mp3/6-disc cd player in my truck. Id like to throw in a couple of subs and amp. After doing some searchin im pretty much still lost about all this. I have the "slit" in my carpet under the back seat and i see some wires: 1-purple w/ green stripe, 1-green with purple stripe, 1-black with orange stripe, and a some wires wrapped up in a black cover.

My question is how can i hook up to run the amp? I read something how if theres a slit in the carpet i can hook into right there for everything? Help me out cuz i dont know much about this.

The wires are most likely part of the audiophile sub harness. You head unit does not use those wires. If you pull off the bash bezel, you will find the other end taped inside. If you just want to add a sub, use a line output converter piggy-backed on a another speaker.

This has been discussed at great length, searching will yield a huge quantity of info.

Those wires are for hooking up the stock subwoofer and amplifier. If you plan on doing anything other than that I would reccomend you run some 4 gauge wire to power your amp.

yeah so could someone tell me what i would need to do to hook up the amp then? What wires to tap into ect. I did alot of searching but its more easy to have someone tell you exactly what im looking for than reading bits and pieces about it. If someone could walk me through everything id really really appreciate it. I dont know much about this.

Get your self a 4gauge amp install kit.

Basicly:
Run a 4 gauge FUSED wire from the battery to the amp.
Run a 4 gauge ground to the amp, somthing close to the amp.
(I used the Jack mount bolts under the rear seat)
Run a "remote turn on" wire from the HU to the amp.
Run a set of SW RCA's from the HU to the amp, for Line input.

Peice of cake
You can pick up a kit with all you need at any Circuit City, Best Buy, Walmart, ect.

BTW how many watts are you planning on pushing??

So im guessing there is rca on the hu i can just plug into? My last truck i had to splice into the speaker wire. And for the remote wire on the hu is it just hangin there or which would it be? Wow it seems pretty simple actually. Will the power wire be long enough because my last supercab i had a hell of a time to getting it to reach. Ill try to just reuse that if it works. Thanks for your time... i appreciate it.

Talking

The kit I just put in my Screw was 15ft and I had plenty. Just be smart when you run it, don’t take the long way because it easier. The shorter the run the less resistance.

Any decent HU will have RCA line outputs, if it doesn’t you will have to use the high input (tap into speakers) and the amp needs a LPF.

The remote is in back of the HU (usually the blue one).

subs are 400watts RMS or Max, what ohm are they running?

Unless you replace the stock HU, you WILL need to splice a line converter into the speaker wires, or use the speaker level inputs on the amp, if so equipped.

What he said, I was under the impression you changed the HU.
Stock has no RCAs

Yeah im keeping my factory HU. No need to get a different one. My system isnt that expensive anyways. Just some cheap 10's for some more bass.

So now that im keeping my factory HU does this change anything how ill hook it up? What speaker wires should i tap into and where at? How much is a line converter too? Do i need to mess with the Factory HU or can i just tap the remote wire into a fuse?

I just did this same install in my 04 Screw.

Tap the Line Output Converter into the the left and rgith front or the left and right rear speaker wires right behind the HU. Run the RCA's behind the glove box and under the door jams to the rear of the truck, wherever you are placing the amp. Run your remote wire from the amp, under the door jam to the fuse box. Use a test light to find a fuse that only has power when the key is on so that your system doesnt draw down your battery when the key is off. Under the dash on the passenger side there is a grommet going through the firewall, kind of difficult to see under the dash but it is right behind the battery box under the hood. Easiest to remove the battery and battery box and run your power cable through there then you should be able to feel it under the dash and pull it through back to your amp. Don't forget to add a 60 amp fuse within 18 inches of your battery. Then run your ground wire to a seat bold or floor board.

Below are the colors of the wires behind the HU. For some reason Ford changes the wires before they get to the speakers so if you pull out the speakers the colors of the wires wont match.

>Left Front Pos = Orange w/ Light Green stripe
>Left Front Neg = Light Blue w/ White stripe
>
>Right Front Pos = White w/ Light Green stripe
>Right Front Neg = Dark Green w/ Orange stripe
>
>Left Rear Pos = Gray w/ Light Blue stripe
>Left Rear Neg = Tan w/ Yellow stripe
>
>Right Rear Pos = Orange w/ Red stripe
>Right Rear Neg = Brown w/ Pink stripe

Hope this helps.
