2011 Ford Raptor

Beastly Ford truck puts its horsepower to the test — and it’s awesome!!!

Deep down, we all wonder in the back of our minds just how much actual horsepower our trucks are producing. Even though the manufacturers tell us what they’re supposed to produce, in the real world, things can be quite different. That’s where the dyno comes into play.

Dynos allow us to find out exactly how much power our vehicles produce at the rear wheels, where it really counts. That’s after the inevitable loss of power that occurs between the engine and the rear wheels, power that is needed to turn all those various bits on its way to shredding our tires.

Here we get to see a 2011 Raptor taking its turn on the dyno, which was hilariously modified to fit the big rear tires on the off-roader. It seems that the metal trim on the rollers had to be cut back to accommodate the stock tires, probably because most folks aren’t putting their 4x4s on them.

The Raptor lays down 336 hp at the rear wheels on the first pass, but bests that number with 341 hp following a filter change. Not a bad number at all considering its factory rating of 411 hp at the flywheel.
