F-150 Tremor

Tucked in above the FX4 package and below the Raptor, the F-150 TREMOR is the Goldilocks option for factory Ford off-roaders.

Following in the footsteps of the SuperDuty and Ranger Tremor packages, Ford finally gave the world the F-150 TREMOR earlier this year. With larger 33″ tires and upgraded shocks, the Tremor boasts more suspension travel and off-road bonafide while wrapping the whole thing in orange accents and a unique interior. And, thanks to a few things like bash plates, side rails, and dual exhaust, it looks a little bit like a Raptor Jr.

Much like the Raptor, the F-150 Tremor is actually its own trim level, not a standalone equipment package as it is on the SuperDuty and Ranger. What this means is that, during the order process, you first select the Tremor and then one of three equipment group packages — Standard (aka XL-ish), Mid (aka XLT-ish), or High (aka Lariat-ish).

For a full breakdown of specs and features, check out the above video OR our more in-depth coverage over HERE on Ford Truck Enthusiasts. But for our purposes here I wanted to share a few opinions on performance and value.

F-150 Tremor Performance

TREMOR off roading

The Tremor’s standard (for 2022) 3.5L EcoBoost V6 outputs 400hp and 500 ft.-lbs. of peak torque. It’s a great engine, ready to boil tires on command, or leisurely crawl up the trails in the scorching desert heat. For those who dislike turbos and/or the way EcoBoost engines sound like a hornet’s nets being chucked into a typewriter, Ford will offer the 5.0L Coyote V8 as the standard Tremor powerplant starting next year.

Many in the media have dubbed the F-150 Tremor a “Baby Raptor.” I disagree because the trucks feel so different when running trails and crawling up mountains. The Raptor’s adjustable, long-travel suspension allows it to travel dramatically faster in most off-roading conditions. The Tremor, by comparison, feels much more like a normal F-150 in terms of needing to keep speeds on the slower side. But a regular F-150 this is not…

The Tremor’s specially-tuned shocks and chunky General Grabber tires work wonders. At the proper speed — or in town facing obstacles like speed bumps — the Tremor is smooth and nimble despite lacking the approach, break-over, and departure angles for more serious off-roading.

Around town, the F-150 Tremor feels powerful and (relatively) light, with the wider tires also helping the truck’s ON-road manners in the process. In truth, the Tremor might seem like it would be uncomfortable around town. But it’s smoother than most F-150s (save for the Raptor), making it a great truck for work, families, and weekend adventures.

F-150 Tremor Value

TREMOR interor 2

It’s hard to label any truck costing, here in 2022, $56,000 to $70,000 cheap or a value. But if you spend a little time at Ford Build & Price, the Tremor ends up costing right around $2,000 more than a similarly optioned F-150 XL, XLT, or Lariat. In fact, our $63,000 Tremor Mid review loaner was actually cheaper than the PowerBoost XLT we reviewed last year because that truck had a more expensive hybrid drivetrain.

In this sense, to spec a new FX4 package F-150 and then add wheels, tires, suspension, gearing, and dual exhaust, one would easily spend more than $2,000 in the aftermarket while (possibly) voiding (portions of) the factory warranty. The Tremor, conversely, is a cohesive mix of parts, all backed by the Blue Oval.

In short, I think it’s a great deal for someone who wants a factory off-roader.

F-150 TREMOR

The only downside is that starting with the 2023 model year, Ford is dropping the standard or base-model Tremor. (Presumably, thanks to the F-150 Rattler, which is based on the XL trim level.) Meaning, only the Tremor Mid and Tremor High will be available, with pricing starting in the $60,000 range.

Again, that’s not cheap, and no everyone wants a 4×4 off-roader. But if you’re already considering a well-spec’d XLT or Lariat with the FX4 package, I’d encourage considering a Tremor.
