Being a limited production, collector’s edition performance vehicle to begin with, it’s no surprise that a lot of people bought Ford Lightnings and stowed them away in climate controlled storage after purchase. For folks looking to buy a basically new Lightning, this isn’t such a bad thing.

There are a ton of fast Lightnings out there in the world, most of them relegated to track only status. The vast majority of those trucks started out as “innocent” builds that quickly got out of hand. The perfect base for a race truck, however, are probably the ones that already can’t be driven on the street.

Of all the colors that Ford applied to Ford’s Lightning pickup during it’s short production life, Dark Shadow Gray might just be the best. Of all the Lightnings Ford produced, 2004 might just be the best of all model years. That makes this 2004 DSG Lightning, quite literally, the best of the best.
