Is This the Lowest Mileage 2002 Lightning in Existence?
Being a limited production, collector’s edition performance vehicle to begin with, it’s no surprise that a lot of people bought Ford Lightnings and stowed them away in climate controlled storage after purchase. These folks intended to turn around and make a profit on their investment one day. To this day, values never got to the level where you’d make a lot of money, however.
For folks looking to buy a basically new Lightning, this isn’t such a bad thing. For the price of a new, base XL F-150, you can pick up a performance icon that isn’t even close to being broken in – like this 2002 Lightning with an insane 1,038 miles on the clock.
Everything, from the tires to the hoses and belts, is original. The truck has obviously sat in a heated garage, under a cover, since the day it was purchased. Even the original battery is still there, though it will no longer hold a charge. You have to at least admire the owner’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the truck’s originality.
Keeping a truck in storage with the intention of making money is a risky endeavor, as we’ve seen with these low mileage Lightnings. Your efforts might even result in lost money one day, so it’s hard to bet on as a retirement play. Regardless, it’s still nice to see some of these legendary trucks preserved the way Ford built them.
