Next-Gen F-150 to be More Sustainable
Here’s a little known fact about Ford: They don’t actively hate the environment. It’s true. Despite building 600+ horsepower coupes and trucks designed to speed over wildlife as quickly as possible, they’d rather not turn the earth into a boiling hot garbage ball. As proof, they’re including a host of environmentally friendly, sustainable materials in to the next F-150.
For instance, they’re using recycled cotton to as carpet insulation and as sound deadener. Eco greenies are well aware that cotton is a highly water intensive crop to grow, so recycling every little bit helps a lot.
Additionally, they’re using soybean material for the fabric in the seat cushions, the headrests, and the seatbacks. The underbody panels are made from recycled tires, the wheel liners are coming from recycled plastic, and the interior finish panels are made from recycled plastic. Even the wiring harness is made from recycled rice hulls that would’ve gone to waste anyways. Ford’ll need 45,000 pounds of the stuff in their first year.
This is really just good news all around. Not only will the next gen truck be lighter and more fuel efficient, it’s be more world friendly. Even if you don’t care about that stuff at all, at least it’s something that you can hold over the head of those holier-than-thou hybrid owners.
