MBRP Exhaust Makes F-150 EcoBoost Sound Like a Japanese Tuner

Trucks and V8s go together like shitty light beer and pizza, but Ford shook up the industry when it released a turbocharged V6 engine that we all know as the EcoBoost for the F-150. Its performance has been met with quite a bit of surprised acceptance, but there’s one thing a smaller turbocharged engine cannot replicate: a V8’s sound.
That’s been one of the main issues for people with the EcoBoost. You can barely even hear its exhaust. If you pulled up next to one at a stoplight, you’d just as soon assume that it’s a Saturn Vue revving up, not a pickup. MBRP Inc. Performance Exhausts has heard the complaints and wants to help, and AmericanMuscle.com made a video to show installation and to review a new entry-level option for those looking to boost a bit of performance or change up that exhaust note.
For $375, you can buy MBRP’s four-inch Installer Series cat-back exhaust. It’s a mandrel-bent aluminized steel bolt-on with a five-inch polished steel tip that exits behind the rear passenger tire. The installation is pretty easy, it looks decent, and it’s cheap. But does it pass the sound check?
Maybe, if you like the sound of a Japanese tuner with an aftermarket exhaust on it. It’s deeper, a little more growly, but it’s still pretty muffled. It’s not loud or cackly, and it’s definitely not reminiscent of a V8. So, just depends on what you want. Judge for yourself:
