Marketing Boss: F-150 for Dual-Use Buyers
The days when people bought trucks for work use only are quickly fading into the past, according to Ford’s F-150 Marketing Manager, Raj Sarkar. According to him, people have shifted to using their trucks both for work and as their primary mode of transportation. “Our philosophy on (the) F-150 is never stand still; we’re always looking to do continuous improvement,” says Sarkar, “A lot of (changes made to ’13 model) were driven by consumer feedback. That’s important for us.”

To most people that probably doesn’t come as a surprise. The cost of owning two vehicles has done nothing but gone up over the last decade. More and more people use their trucks for everything, and as a result, Ford is has been changing the F-150 to accommodate that change.

Notably, the higher-end Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trucks all come with Ford’s infotainment system. What you might not have known, is that the touchscreen has been calibrated to work with gloved hands as well. If anything, this just shows that they’re thinking of their changing market, and adapting accordingly. That shows through in the sheer volume of different trims available for a new F-150.

It seems to serving them well too. The F series currently leads it’s segment in sales and has been doing so for the better part of the last 30 years. Toss in the fuel friendly, yet powerful ecoboost, and it doesn’t seem like they’ll be giving up that crown anytime soon.
