D.I.Y.: Installing a Coyote 5.0 V8 Into Your Ford Truck (Video)
Video series promises to help you give your classic Ford truck an injection of modern horsepower and reliability.
As much as we love our new trucks, there’s just something magical about a vintage Ford truck. With timeless styling and simplistic toughness, every generation of F-100 and F-150 has stood the test of time. But in spite of their many charms, there is one problem that holds back a lot of old trucks. And that problem is a gas guzzling, underpowered, oftentimes unreliable engine.
The solution is one that many have used over the years – swap in a modern, fuel injected V8. Ever since Ford began offering the Coyote 5.0 liter V8 in crate engine form, folks have scooped them up and dropped them into countless vintage rides. But if you lack serious mechanical skills or the cash to pay an expert, you’re probably thinking that swapping a Coyote 5.0 V8 into your truck is merely a pipe dream.
But dropping a Coyote into your old Ford no longer requires elite fabrication skills. To demonstrate just how easy it is to make the swap, Grenade Motorsports has set out to document their latest project – this 1972 F-250. The truck actually came to them via a YouTube channel subscriber in desperate need of some modern upgrades.
This video is the first in what will be a series documenting the old Ford’s transformation. And unlike GM’s previous videos, they promise a more in depth how-to this time around. You can bet we’ll be watching. Not to mention eyeballing that tired old 70’s Ford truck down the road from us, too.
