If you own a classic F-150 and have been bookmarking interesting how-tos, we’ve got one you may want to catalog. It’s a timeless thread that will come in handy should you ever need a good guide for maintaining your vintage truck if it gets sluggish. This is an issue that F-150 Online forum member “tpage68” encountered a while back when he decided to head to the F-150 Online forums’ “Pre-1997 Models” section to share his experience of how he came to detect and then fix a problem with his classic Ford F-150 truck’s ignition after it had some trouble keeping pace.
“I have an 87 F150 302/5.0L. Was running fine while driving but started to bog down and backfire as I started to leave a red light. Cold not drive it over 55 mph (60 mph downhill) without it bogging and backfiring. Seems to happen when the throttle is wide open fast. Have slowly opened the throttle and seems to kinda work.”
In his post titled “87 F150 Bogs Down and Backfires,” “tpage68” provides a comprehensive and very valuable how-to post that covers pre- and post-problem replacements and maintenance. And he backs it up with three original videos.
That original post containing all of that great content sparks a good conversation with fellow forum members about the best ways to keep older Ford trucks in good shape and running smoothly.
