Ford F-150

Our friends at Ford Truck Enthusiasts are ready to help first-time mudders and rock climbers with tons of tips and resources.

Have you been wanting to take your F-150 out for a weekend of sloshing through the mud and deep rivers? Perhaps you want to get the most out of your Raptor on the sand dunes and desert trails? Maybe your modded Ford is ready to climb a few rocks and boulders?

If it’s your first time to tackle the rough roads, our friends over at our other favorite Ford truck site, Ford Truck Enthusiasts, have a guide to off-roading just for you.

Though the guide was first published back in October of 2014 (before the F-150 Raptor first left its mark upon the sand), the advice written then is still true today, and will remain so in the years ahead. The first part of the guide covers traction, suspension, and modifications to consider for your F-150 before rolling out for the weekend.

The second part of FTE‘s off-roading guide focuses on the two most important things to do before diving into the dirt: planning and communication. As the guide says, “planning a trip requires some forethought as the potential to get stranded is always a possibility. Being prepared is the best advice you can get for off-roading.”

Finally, our friends offer a few tips on gaining experience on the trail so that you and your F-150 have the best time, plus extra resources. So, what are you waiting for? Study the guide, prepare like there’s no tomorrow, and hit the great wide open.

Cameron Aubernon's path to automotive journalism began in the early New '10s. Back then, a friend of hers thought she was an independent fashion blogger.

Aubernon wasn't, so she became one, covering fashion in her own way for the next few years.

From there, she's written for: Louisville.com/Louisville Magazine, Insider Louisville, The Voice-Tribune/The Voice, TOPS Louisville, Jeffersontown Magazine, Dispatches Europe, The Truth About Cars, Automotive News, Yahoo Autos, RideApart, Hagerty, and Street Trucks.

Aubernon also served as the editor-in-chief of a short-lived online society publication in Louisville, Kentucky, interned at the city's NPR affiliate, WFPL-FM, and was the de facto publicist-in-residence for a communal art space near the University of Louisville.

Aubernon is a member of the International Motor Press Association, and the Washington Automotive Press Association.
