Ford F-150 with a Turbocharged V8 Makes Big Power, Runs 11s
Ford F-150 has a single turbo setup on a stock engine, making more than 700 rear wheel horsepower.
The Ford F-150 shares the 5.0-liter V8 with the Mustang GT, so many performance packages can be applied to both vehicles with minor changes. For example, the turbo upgrade packages from On3 Performance work with the car and the truck, leading to big power from both vehicles. We have featured trucks running an On3 system in the past, but today, we bring you a look at their single turbo setup on an F-150 on the dyno and at the track.
The videos shown here all come to us from the On3Performance YouTube channel and they feature a modern Ford F-150 pickup with the 5.0-liter V8 and the single turbocharger package. Although the mod list is short, this truck makes big power and turns out impressive numbers at the drag strip.
On3 F-150
The details on this truck are relatively short, but we know that this is a Ford F-150 pickup from the previous generation with the 5.0-liter V8 and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is an FX4 model, so we know that it has four-wheel-drive, and we can see that it has the regular cab and short bed, so this is a fairly lightweight half-ton truck.
As for upgrades, we know that it is equipped with the On3 Performance single turbocharger upgrade. That turbo package includes the turbocharger itself, the front-facing manifolds, the massive front-mount intercooler and all of the piping needed to get the boost into the engine. Of course, a system like this requires a custom tune, leading to the big power numbers. Other than those upgrades, the engine of this F-150 is stock. The internals haven’t been touched, so it has the stock bottom end and stock camshafts.
Finally, while we don’t know if the transmission or differential have been upgraded, we can see that this F-150 has drag radials out back, helping to get the best traction possible. We do not know if the truck is being launched in rear- or four-wheel-drive, but it definitely gets out of the hole in a hurry.
Dyno and Track Time
In the video above, we get a chance to hear the turbocharged V8 scream on the dyno, laying down 707 rear wheel horsepower. There is also a short video that shows us the engine bay up close while the F-150 is idling. In this clip, we get the best look at the routing of the charge pipes from the turbocharger to the intercooler to the throttle body.
Finally, the video below shows this boosted F-150 at the drag strip. After a strong launch, the truck pulls hard through the top end, stopping the timers at 11.88 with a speed of 123.91 miles per hour. Considering that this truck looks stock aside from the wheels, running in the 11-second range makes this an impressive sleeper and this was achieved with a turbo kit on a stock V8 engine.
