Ford F-150 Rental Goes Mudding in Quebec

By -

Ford F-150 is completely stock and it does well in the pit, but we hope that they bought the insurance.

The Ford F-150 is the bestselling vehicle in the United States because it is one of the most capable vehicles in the North American market. The F-150 can tow and haul nearly as much weight as any other vehicle in the segment, while also offering solid fuel economy and enough interior space for five adults. It is hard to rival the overall functionality of the half-ton F-Series truck, but these trucks are too expensive for some people to justify owning one.

Fortunately, there are companies around North America that offer the Ford F-150 for short-term rentals and one of those businesses is in Canada. Someone rented one of these trucks, but they clearly planned on doing more than running errands, unless one of those errands was a day at the Mud Pit in Sainte Beatrix in Quebec. In this footage from the YouTube channel of Andrew Sommers, we see that a rental F-150 can conquer a serious mud pit just as well as a purpose-built mud truck.

There are no details on the truck in action in the video above, but we can tell plenty based on what we can see. This is a late model Ford F-150 with four-wheel-drive and the SuperCrew cab, but that is all that we know for sure. At one point in the video, it sounds like there is a V8 under the hood, but with the crowd noise and the announcer, it is hard to really listen to just the exhaust note. Not to mention, the video quality isn’t very good, and that includes the sound.

Really, a new Ford F-150 could play in the mud with any of the available engines, but the ease with which this F-Series cruises through the slop leads us to believe that it has either an EcoBoost V6 or the 5.0-liter V8.

In any case, since this is a rental truck, we know that it is completely stock, down to the wheels and tires. However, for being a completely stock F-150, it does very well in the deep, Canadian mud bog.

Storming through the Slop

The video begins with the Ford F-150 perched at the starting line of the Canadian mud bog in front of a large crowd. The driver charges down the dirt ramp that leads into the watery mud pit, hitting the water with enough speed to create a massive wave to both sides. The water slows the F-150 down as mud rushes across the hood, but the new F-Series continues to inch forward until it makes it to the far bank.

The run was successful and there didn’t appear to be any damage done to the truck. On the other hand, we bet that there is mud jammed in all sorts of tight spots under the hood, so it is probably a good thing that the renter opted for the extra insurance.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
