Ford F-150 Rendering Proves that Sometimes, Old and New Don’t Mix

Retro Ford F-150 Rendering

We’ve seen plenty of cool, newer Ford F-150 ‘retro’ builds, but a recently surfaced rendering just doesn’t do it for us.

To us, Ford trucks from the ’70s are some of the best-looking vehicles ever built, period. But we also love the way the new Ford F-150 looks. We aren’t the only ones who feel that way, and as such, several aftermarket companies have successfully combined styling elements of older Ford F-150 pickups onto newer ones. But what if Ford went all out and built a brand new retro-style truck? That was the idea behind this interesting rendering posted to Instagram by an artist named Oscar V.

Oscar spends his time recreating modern rides with classic vehicle styling, and many of his renderings are undoubtedly awesome. But there’s just something about this Ford F-150 that doesn’t quite seem right. The idea was to retrofit a new F-150 to look like it was built in the ’70s, which is intriguing on the surface. But when you add it all together, some elements just don’t go together as well as planned.

We are digging the front grille, which keeps the basic overall design of the current Ford F-150 yet adds in the iconic “Ford” lettering. Oscar also changed the headlights to a circular design like the ’70s pickup. But the addition of the side body trim just doesn’t quite match up with the modern truck’s lines. In fact, it just looks like all of that stuff was tacked up by somebody with a few rolls of double-sided tape.

Then there are the wheels, which are actually OEM Ford pieces from the ’90s. They’re one of our personal favorite all-time designs, so we have no qualms there. We’re not really fans of the giant chrome front bumper that doesn’t flow with the new truck’s lines, however.

2019 Ford F-150

Overall, we certainly admire the effort that went into this Ford F-150 rendering. But it’s just hard to love, at least for us. We’ve seen plenty of cool retro-styled pickups in recent years, so we know that it can be done. But in this case, we’ll pass. Even though we wish Ford would build and sell a new truck with some cool retro flair.
