Ford Donates F-150 & Loads of Goods to Detroit Firehouses

Blue Oval, Detroit Lions & Dennis Leary surprise local fire stations with $50,000 & new truck in effort to help upgrade existing equipment.

Ford is no stranger to spreading the love to the brave heroes of this nation, which includes local firefighters in the Detroit area, folks who spend most every holiday risking their lives to save others. And since first responders don’t get holidays off like many of us, Ford wanted to make sure their time spent at the station was as comfortable as possible. So, they teamed up with famed actor Dennis Leary and the Detroit Lions to give something back to those willing to give it all. And in the mix was one of the coolest Christmas gifts of all, a Ford F-150!

Leary and a handful of Lions players loaded up new furniture, televisions, video games, grilles, and other goodies and surprised three Detroit-area firehouses. And the recipients of these generous gifts couldn’t hold back their emotions.

“It was a blessing,” said Charles Simms, second deputy fire commissioner. “Any time our firefighters can be recognized is a great day. We are grateful.”

Giving back to local firefighters is something truly special for Leary in particular. Years ago, a fire claimed the lives of six firefighters, including Leary’s cousin and a childhood friend. That’s when he decided to form the Leary Firefighters Foundation.

Since that time, Leary has raised millions to help these brave men and women and their families. Including those who perished on 9/11.

This year, Leary and Ford set out to make the holidays a little better for Detroit-area firefighters. In addition to the gifts, Ford also donated a brand-new F-150 and $50,000 to the Detroit Fire Department. They hope the donations help the department upgrade its existing equipment. But no matter how that turns out, we just appreciate the fact that our favorite automaker remains determined to give back to those who keep us safe.
