EcoBoost F-150 Runs an 11.59 with Stock Turbos

By -

F-150 has fuel system and air intake system upgrades, but it runs mid-11s while looking pretty much stock.

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 from the F-150 has proven itself to be one of the greatest Ford truck engines ever. In stock form, it powers the quickest and most capable models in the lineup, but more importantly, the largest of the current EcoBoost engines takes very well to modifications. Many owners have learned that with basic engine bolt-ons coupled with a quality engine tune will take an EcoBoost-powered pickup and transform it into a full-sized muscle car killer.

The video above is a fine example of the impact of upgrades to the 3.5-liter EcoBoost, with this truck from the ZFG Racing YouTube channel is running impressive quarter mile times with a simple mod list that does not include upgraded turbochargers.

The truck in the video above is a 2019 Ford F-150 XLT that is powered by the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. We do not know if this is a four-wheel-drive model, as there are no badges or mention of that in the details, but it launches really well for a rear-drive truck.

In any case, upgrades include a high pressure fuel pump from Xtreme DI, a Walbro low pressure fuel pump, an AMS Performance intercooler, an AFE air filter and a custom E85 tune from ZFG Racing. This truck also has had the passenger’s seat and rear seat removed, along with the muffler. There is no mention of better-than-original tires, and based on what we can see in the video, this F-150 may have made this pass on the stock wheels and tires.

Really, this 2019 F-150 looks pretty much stock from the outside, but it sure doesn’t run like any stock truck.

The Record-Setting Pass

In the video above, this 2019 F-150 is making one of its four runs of the night and on each pass, it ran no slower than an 11.80. On this particular run, the half-ton truck runs an 11.59 at 115.92 miles per hour with a 1.73 60-foot time. According to the video details, that makes this F-150 the quickest 2017-and-newer EcoBoost-powered pickup in the world.

F-150 11.59

We don’t know for sure if that is indeed the world record, but it is still a stock-looking 2019 F-150 that covers the quarter mile in the 11.50s and that is an impressive feat.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
