Do You like Your Ford Trucks with Two Tone or Solid Paint?

Two Tone Ford Trucks

It sure seems like two-tone paint jobs rule the classic Ford truck world, but is that really the case?

Throughout the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, two-tone paint jobs ruled the Ford truck world. And then, like most fads, they were gone. Today, however, two-tone paint jobs appear to be making a comeback, even on brand new pickups. Retro is cool, as it always has been, after all. So when we came across this thread at our brother site Ford Truck Enthusiasts, it got us wondering. Are two-tone paint jobs the next big thing, again?

This thread is particularly interesting because it starts out with a member asking others for paint ideas. The owner has a ’70s Ford truck that is currently two-tone, but he admits he’s considering changing that to a solid color. And the backlash he receives just proves the staying power of the mighty two-tone paint job.

Two Tone Vs Solid Paint

“My vote is two-tone and keep the trim,” said fair67driver. “I’d give my left lug nut to have my Super Cab in full trim and two-tone.”

“Two-tone is old school,” added Diesel_Brad. “Solid color is new school and boring as hell. I say keep your trim and do a two-tone of your choice that will go with your interior color.”

Two Tone Vs Solid Paint

“The two-tone paint with the full trim package really will set your truck apart and turn heads as you drive around town,” said NBC-Steve. “The previous owner of my truck painted it two-tone right before I purchased it almost five years ago.”

“Two-tone with trim for sure,” said JRon. “My truck was originally two-tone, and is going back that way. I agree that the Dentsides just look best in a two-tone with all the trim. I would either do a silver/green/silver or a green/white/green with your interior color. Just my opinion.”

In fact, only a grand total of one person voted for solid paint in this thread.

“So far I’m the lone vote for solid color,” said MadFrank81. “I always thought two-tone was too fuddy duddy looking, like white wall tires on a Lincoln. Looks like Grandpa should be driving it. Personally I’m into green, a nice dark metallic green.”

The results of this interesting thread got us wondering – are two-tone paint jobs really that popular on older Ford trucks? Thus, we want to hear from you. So head over here and let us know which paint style you prefer, and why!
