Talk about multitasking. These guys go for a refreshing swim and get to their next destination at the same time.

The Ford F-150 is basically a Swiss Army knife on four wheels. It functions as a commuter vehicle. It carries families to restaurants. It transports crews to job sites. It hauls mulch. It tows boats. The F-150 in this video we found on the wildwestdiesel Instagram page allows a couple of guys to take a refreshing ride to their next destination.

According to the person filming the unusual, don’t-try-this-at-home antics from inside their Land Rover, they were on their way to grab a bite when they came up behind a last-generation F-150 pulling double duty as a mode of transportation and mobile swimming pool. A man’s head sticks out above the top of the truck’s bed, which is filled with a blue tarp that’s been folded over the top of the bed’s sides and tailgate.

The water suddenly erupts and another man pops up. Apparently, he went for the world’s shortest swim below the surface of the shock-compressing body of water. He shakes his head to jettison some of it from his long hair. As the F-150 takes a left, the fun-seeker shoots his hands skyward in a passionate salute to the gods of summertime fun (we imagine he also screamed out “WOO-HOO!” as he did).

As the truck rounds the corner, the bed/pool’s contents slosh to one corner and spill onto the sun-baked concrete.

The loss of water doesn’t seem to lessen the enthusiasm or enjoyment of the two guys soaking up the sun in one of the most inexpensive and schedule-friendly pools on the planet.

According to the comments on this video, many people have done something just like this in their trucks (although it’s not clear if they did it while it was moving). In fact, truck bed pools are so popular that several companies offer them for pickups with short, standard and long cargo boxes. Something tells us the last step of the instructions reads something like this: Make sure truck is parked while you enjoy your new pool.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum and Ford Truck Enthusiasts, Derek also contributes to other outlets. He started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to get even more automotive content out to fellow enthusiasts.
