Ford F-150 Exhaust

F-150 owner wants more sound than stock, but he doesn’t want it to be too loud for a daily driver.

If you have a late model Ford F-150 and you are looking to swap to an aftermarket exhaust system, there are a great many options. A trip to your local exhaust shop will lead to a nice custom setup that may cost less than a brand name setup, but if you don’t have an exhaust shop that you trust, buying a packaged system is the easiest option. The problem with all of the options is that it can be tough to figure out which exhaust system option is best for your F-150.

That is the dilemma facing “JETTUNER” when he posted in the 2015-2019 F-150 section, asking the community which exhaust system for the 5.0-liter V8 is the best.

The Introduction

When the OP first posted his question to the forum, he explained that he wanted a little more sound from his 2018 F-150 with the 5.0-liter V8, but he doesn’t want it to be too loud to serve as a daily driver. Frankly, we prefer more sound, but we can understand this Ford owner’s concern.

I wanted to find out before I spend 1000. 00 dollars what everyone thinks the best sounding cat-back exhaust system is. Initially I was going to go with the Roush system but I was hearing it was way too loud for most daily drivers. Looking for a good noticeable V8 rumble but not crazy loud. I have been recently looking at the Magnaflow dual stainless system. Let me know what you guys are running and your experience with them.

The first person to reply was “ManualF150”, who provided some insight based on YouTube footage of modified Ford trucks.

Judging by YouTube videos, it appears the Magnaflows might be the ticket.

While “flt40” recommended the MBRP system that he runs on his truck, but he did not include any images or videos.

I have MBRP on mine. little louder than Magnaflow but I think the sounds is much better.

However, the OP checked out that brand and didn’t like what he heard.

I looked at the website and checked out some YouTube videos for sound test. Seems like the MBRP exiting in front of axle might be a little loud for an everyday driver.

F-150 in Action with Borla Exhaust

Finally, “sddesigns” shared the picture above of his F-150 with the Borla Atak exhaust, along with the videos shown throughout this post of his V8-powered pickup in action on the track. With an in-truck camera and clip from trackside, we get a chance to hear the Borla system from different perspectives.

The Borla system sounds great from every angle, but it might be a bit loud for the OP, who hasn’t replied with his final decision.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
