2005 F-150 Custom Front

A 2005 Ford F-150 featuring common modifications looks like a whole new truck, helping a forum member get over his mid-life crisis.

Today’s featured project from the forum was originally shared by “Meatbone613” when he began customizing his 2005 Ford F-150 FX4. It was a nice looking truck in stock form, but when the OP wanted to get back into the world of customizing a vehicle, he began making changes to his daily-driven half-ton truck.

The Introduction

When Meatbone613 introduced us to his 2005 Ford F-150, this was his explanation of the build plans and the reason for the build.

2005 F150 Near Stock

“When I was younger I was always a “Car” guy. I did the tuner scene when I was a kid and I had an Dodge SRT-4 my baby. Then the typical happened, Got married, had kids, bought a house traded in my SRT-4 for a used 2005 F-150 Fx4. Myself and my toys became 2nd to family and house, as it should in every mans life.

Earlier this year I turned 30 and told my wife i was having a mid-life crisis “Daddy needed a Toy”. The Truck was paid off and I told her the time had come for me to get my toy back, and like the awesome wife she is she told me “Make it a beast”. LOL!

I am in no means done with my truck Still have more to come which I will update when it happens. But the bulk is done. There are alot more pics in my Albums for those interested but these are my favorites. Post if you have any questions and I will reply ASAP. THANKS IN ADVANCE!”

He also included the image above of the truck in near-stock form, with the only modification being the dual-tipped Corsa exhaust system.

The Modifications Add Up

After introducing us to his 2005 F-150 with a Corsa exhaust system, the OP got very busy changing the look of the exterior. He added aftermarket wheels with aggressive off-road tires, a suspension leveling kit and window tint. When coupled with the new exhaust tips, those few changes gave this F150 a far sportier, aggressive look.

Next, Meatbone613 fitted his F-150 with dark-smoked LED taillights and a matching third brake light lens, a Saleen grille, unique badging from front to rear, painted headlights, high-flow catalytic convertors and a custom air intake setup.

Really, the short list of modifications and the dramatic difference in exterior appearance from start to finish highlights how easily you can change the look of your F-150 with simple, common modifications.

We have included a dozen of his pictures here, but the OP included tons of pictures at each step of his build, so click here to check out the thread for a better look at the work-in-progress as it was updated. There are also plenty of videos of the truck in action, allowing us to hear the Corsa exhaust roar.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
