2010 F150 with 4.6L and 6r80
I have a 2010 F150 (made late 2009) with the 4.6L and 6r80. 209865 miles tonight.
about 1000 miles ago I had the truck made a weird humming noise as I approach my cruising speed. as soon as it starts it goes away. last night I change brake pads. No difference. Today I am cruising and the truck gets the wrench icon. It did something weird, felt like it tried to shift but gave up as this happened. I think it was stuck in a high gear. It still was running fine, it just would not shift.
I pull over and I can shift into park, reverse, neutral just fine. Drive is just stuck in some high gear it seems. Truck would cruise up to about 50 mph at 3000 rpm. I shut off the truck and start it back up. It goes back into 1st gear immediately. I pulled codes and it has P0735 - wrong 5th gear ratio. I drove home with "Tow Haul" mode on and it had zero issues.
The transmission does not slip, shudder, or have any significant issues. it actually works fine other than this. Is this just an issue with the electronics in the transmission? From the parts diagram I can see there is a very large "lead frame" that contains many components plus about 6 solenoids. Can I pull all this stuff off with the transmission in the truck? It'll be uncomfortable but I don't want to pull the transmission unless I am replacing the whole unit. It looks like the "lead frame" compromises many parts that would normally be individually components. If there is a chance one of these parts could be the issue I'd just like to replace them all in one go.
any other ideas here?
