Following a Wreck and Some Aging, ’65 F-100 Proves it Is ‘Built Ford Tough,’ Even after Lying Dormant for Nearly a Decade

YouTuber “SixtyFiveFord” is known for his fabrication, repair and metal- and woodwork videos. But his moniker stems from his first love: a 1965 Ford F-100. Sixtyfiveford and his F-100 go back 20 years. It was his very first vehicle. But an unfortunate accident rendered the truck inoperable for nearly a decade.

The truck, affectionately called “Betsy,” still sports the original 352 FE V8, fitted with headers and dual exhaust. The motor’s backed up by a Borg Warner T18 4- speed manual transmission. Out back sits a Ford nine-inch rear end with 3.25:1 gears. The ’65 is an original drum brake/manual steering truck but power discs and steering later replaced them.

The Ford F-100 served as a daily driver for a decade before a job change forced the owner into newer transportation. After a little mix up with a road sign, the truck sat dormant in his garage for nine years. The accident took out a fender andthe hood and bent the axle.

After repairing the axle, it was time to fire the old girl up again. Fresh gas, a new battery and some two-stroke in the fuel bowl are all it takes to get things started. The motor turns over right away, but it takes a few turns of the key to start. The truck then takes a spin around the block to blow the cobwebs out.

This video serves as a reminder of just how tough Ford trucks are and have always been. Even after sitting dormant for almost a decade, this old 1965 F-100 comes back to life with minimal effort. No matter what you throw in their way — even a wreck and father time — Ford trucks take a licking and keep on ticking.
