cost of recalibration

I had my wifes 2001 supercrew which we recently put 33's on at the dealer today to have the radiator recall done and happen to ask about rcalibrating the speedo for the new tire size. They quoted $150.00. Seems a little excessive to me. Has anyone had this done and if so what were the costs?

I traded off the 235/70R16's (29.0" tires) that came with my 2001 for 235/85R16's (31.7" tires). The dealer I asked to recalibrate my speedo (Suburban Ford, Sandy, OR) originally quoted me about half of what you've been quoted, but ended up only charging about 1/6th of what you were quoted (they did the work when I had it in for an oil change). I think this is because the tire diameter and gear ratio (3.55) combination was within the range of options available for the truck when I bought it. I saw a few new F150's on the lots with these taller (& tougher) tires when I was looking, but not on any with packages I wanted to buy.

The 33"er's are probably too much of a stretch for the good deal I got but $150 puts you a good part of the way toward one of the superchip type programing devices that also lets you set your speedo for different tire sizes.

You might want to shop around at some of the neighboring Ford Dealers.
