1995 5.0 L Engine Firing Problem
My '95 SuperCab with a 5.0 was running pretty poorly so I decided to do a tune-up. The truck has an automatic and 235,000 miles and is on it's second engine. This was installed by a Garage and has had no problems since it was installed at about 130K.
I replaced the Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. My first mistake was replacing the cap, then replacing the wires one at a time, removing them from the old cap and reinstalling them on the new cap and I knew I had made a mistake. Before going any further I looked up the correct firing order. The problem was every where I looked I found a different order. I finally decided to go with the order in the Ford service manual and on the decal on the core support.
This was 13726548. I first finished the wire replacement and then checked each wire location on the cap and at the plugs.
I then replaced the plugs. When I started the engine it is not firing in the correct order, there engine is running rough, missing, and there is a lot of unburnt gas in the exhaust.
At this point I am not sure where to go since I can't find a reliable firing order.
Is there an easy way to figure which plugs are not firing? I think there are only 2 plugs crossed wired because of the way it is running.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Doug

HI
I seem to remember a change in firing order.
It would be best if you could contact who replaced the 302.
I will give you 3 different orders, I hope this will help.
1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8 book for HO
1 6 5 3 2 4 7 8 written in book for HO STARTS AT 4 ??
1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 FORD TRUCK
As I remember the wire run was such that it would cause
a cross cyl to fire in the wrong order. (two at the same time)
becouse they were routed next to each other.
This could be a bad wiring sympton.
I have a 95 truck. I think the decals were removed in the 98
wreck or when it burned up the 302 (90 days latter).
I am going on 350k total and 260k on the rebuild.
So be it. I do not get good service FORD or otherwise.
