98' E4OD or 4r100?

Did any ford f150s or expeditions come with a 4r100 and not the E4OD? I know they are essentially the same but from what I've read is the computer for a E4OD will not work on a 4r100

To the best of my knowledge, all 98's were E4OD and all 99's were 4R100. I don't know about the computer issue.

The way to tell is to look for a turbine speed sensor on top, near the front of the trans. The E4OD doesn't have one, the 4R100 does. A computer that is expecting a 4R100 won't like an E4OD. An E4OD computer can run a 4R100.

Thanks for the info. Does it require any modification for a E4OD computer to run the 4R100 or does accept it like it is in 99+ model 4R100s?

You don't need to modify the computer. If the 4R100 is a late '99 or newer it has a different lockup system. You will either need to add an orifice in the pump body or have harsh converter lockups.
