4R70W Reverse But no Forward

Hi, My old ford just hit the kip the other day and am in the process of deciding weather to scrap it or try and keep it. We have recently had a cold snap and been -40-50 Celsius (-58f for you American guys) and it causes havoc for vehicles here. Of course in the middle of that, at 5am going to work, my trans doesn't engage... I figured because its super cold (I let it warm up for 5 min before driving) just tapped the gas and it engaged and moved on. Leaving school the next day it pulls the same stunt again but now only moves when its at 4k rpm and then drove home fine until I got home. The transmission now has no front and pulls fine and dandy in reverse.

I've had this truck since new and only has 105 or so miles (179k kms). I know in the 99 4.2 v6 they used the 4r70w trans... Is there anything besides a complete rebuild I can do. Or has anyone heard of something that commonly fails in this to replace. I have looked around but nothing really besides just replacing it.

Heres some info on it...

1. 99 F-150 4.2 EXT cab
2. RWD
3. V6,
4. 179450 Kilometers
5. Transmission has had no service
6. Only Engages reverse, no forward at all.
7. No codes
8. Fluid Level is great
9. Dark red fluid colour
10. Changed ATF in the summer (All of it)
11. Mercon V
12. No transmission Leaks
13. No electrical Problems
14. Transmission failed in extreme cold, -58 Fahrenheit. lurched forward and never moved again

It's rebuild or replace time. There is nothing external that can be changed to fix this. It's had an internal failure.

yep, forward clutch went buh-bye. its quite common in trucks, especially.

No forward clutch engagement = No go forward!
