Transmission repair cost guesstimate...
Okay, the truck is a 2004 F150 XLT 4x4, and I have a sizeable leak in the front of the transmission, I suspect the pump seal, however, if the pump seal is getting trashed, there has to be something causing it. The transmission was rebuilt at about 32K under Ford's warranty. The truck now has 94K, so in 62K it has obliterated a pump seal. Yes a LOT of that time has been spent just sitting. But I suspect that the Torque Converter might be just enough out of balance to trash the pump seal...
So I am looking at time and labor guides, and it looks like transmission R&R runs about 5.2 hrs, plus an added hour for the T case, and .2 for the torque converter.
Average shop rate around here seems to be $75.00 - $80.00 / hr.
So I am thinking I should have to pony up for 6.4hrs at let's guess high at $90.00, $200.00 for a torque converter, again guess high at $25.00 for the pump seal kit, plus probably another $100.00 for fluids / filter, tax etc... That puts me at $1.001.00
Does that sound about right?
Due to the mileage should I get the tranny shop to service the T case as well?
