sticking in gear

I have a 1998 F150 4.6 V8. When I am driving and get to about 38-45 mph it seems like its sticking in gear then it will start chugging a little and it will drop into gear. If anyone has an ideas what it could be more than happy to hear thanks

You sure it's not a misfire? How many miles on the truck, how many miles on the spark plugs, when was the last time the transmission fluid was changed? Are there any OBD2 codes?

It could be it miss firing. And to be honest I don't know I just bought the truck. I need to check the spark plugs and put some new fluid in their just thought I would see what people would say.

The torque converter has a drain plug so you can do a complete fluid change without a machine. Again, how many miles on the truck? Any OBD2 codes?

If the check engine light ever came on, it will store a trouble code in the computer. You read out the codes with a code reader plugged into the OBD2 port under the dash. Autozone will read them free. If there are any codes, write down the exact number, we could care less what the zonie thinks they mean.
