i just got my new 2004 and am trying to get my 6X8's from my 2001
installed . getting different answers from installers on whether they will fit
claiming i need new 5x7's. or that they are the same? anybody know
what fits ?

The answers I got was they are one in the same. I bought 5"x7" Diamond coax and they fit perfectly. The exhisting plates in the doors would also take 5 1/4 component set with the tweeter being mounted up near the top of the speaker grills in the doors. Mine had the tweeters there stock with the audiophile option. I would asume the door panels have the spot for tweeters even with out Audiophile.

I bet the 6x8 fit. It is very easy to see cause all you have to do is pop off the speaker grill from the door panels. Mine were installed within minutes of starting the door speaker install.

Does the speaker grille come off separately. I was assuming I would have to remove the entire door panel.

In order to get the door panel off, you have to completly remove the speakers or your gonna be ripping your door panels apart. Take a small flat head screw driver and go from the front of the speaker grill. You will see the slots to stick the driver in. I would either start at the top or bottom of the grill. This was the easiest thing i've done to my truck.

I thought the same way and wasn't looking forward to going in

 

Do you folks know who make the factory speakers that come with the Audiophile system in the 04s? If you are changing these out, what are you replacing them with and why (if I may ask).

I'm not sure who makes them but they are nice. They are 5.25 componenets with seperate silk tweeters. I changed mine to Diamonds so I could throw more power through them.

I changed mine out before the power upgrade and they made it sound better.

 

Front door grilles come off, but you have to take off the whole door panel on the back doors to get to the speakers.

6x8 will fit.
