Angry My 01L now has a V7

Despite all the warnings on this board, I was too lazy to check the plugs on my 01.

Last Friday morning on the way to work, one of the plugs blew out. Bang! - Ping! - Chuggachugga...

The dealership thought that there were still threads in the head, and tried to reinstall a new plug after sending a guy out to get a new coilpack. No such luck as I had expected. New head on order. I need to talk to them today to see how long this is going to take.

The service manager set me up with the free rental car immediately, and said NOTHING about the mods I have. He said this is a warrantee repair, which I agree with, but after reading the horror stories here about powertrain warrantees being voided just for having a chip, I was prepared for the worst.

BTW, for you locals, this is Landmark Ford in Tigard, OR.

Woah.... that sucks to blow a plug, but good thing they're taking care of you. I got my Lightning from Landmark, and I have received good service from them in the past. Unfortunately, I moved, and now Landmark is a little too far away for me.

NakMan: Are you getting serviced by the Orange (SVT) team?

Silver-Bolt: have you tried these guys out?

~rick

PS: That's it -- I'm definately gonna do plugs this weekend! I've got a 3-day coming up, so I'll start Saturday afternoon. If anyone wants to come up to Oregon City...

SpoonDog_SVT,

I'm with Red Team (Mike Walker).

Good idea on checking the plugs. This way you can avoid having to drive a Taurus around. :o

Would your recommendation fall on 2002 model L's as well as 2001's? I've got a little over 700 miles on it now, but hearing about your story makes me want to check the plugs out. What seems to be the issue here? Are the plugs gapped wrong from the factory? Any idea? Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Hey Nak, let us know how it turns out.

Also, we have a few Lightning owners in the Portland Metro Area. I'm also from Beaverton.

Check out our lil home on NLOC.net.

Jeez, Flash, you beat me to it...

For the rest of you, nevermind, this was a duplicate of Flash's post above.

Red02SVTL,

My understanding (from reading this board) is that the engine plant has some machine that torques in the plugs that obviously needs to be replaced by a human.

They are simply not torqued in enough and work loose over time and miles.

I'd check yours if I were you. BTW, if you read MM&FF, they had photos of a Lightning head and showed that there aren't too many threads to begin with. I can imagine someone over-torquing their plugs and requiring a new head for that too.

FlashSVT,

Thanks for letting me know about the group. I'll have to meet with you guys (providing this gets fixed...). Are you members of SAACNW? I'm contemplating taking the L and my Cobra out to PIR this summer.

Hey NakMan, I'm not a member of the SAACNW, but one of the guys in the club, Silver-Bolt is big time into road racing, etc.

I'm a 1/4 mile junkie . . .

Here are some pics from a few weeks ago when some of us met up at PIR for some photos.

NakMan where have you been hiding. Bummer about the plug. Glad to hear they are taking care of it. I had nightmare service experiences at Landmark with previous vehicles. Nice to hear they straightened out the service dept.

What are you running for mods? Nice to see more locals.
