Question Transmission help

I recently aquired a 1994 F150 reg cab short bed 2WD with a 300 straight 6 engine for $200. The transmission is needing replaced, and I have been looking but cant find much that I can afford. So my question is this, what tranny can I put into this truck (4 speed or 5 speed manual) that will work. I know pretty much any manual out of a 87-96 will work, anything older than that, that the bell housing bolt pattern will be the same? Any help is appreciated.

Well, if you were closer to Virginia, I have two transmissions in my garage that would work. What is in it? If it is a 5 speed and the internals are bad, I've got one of those that needs the shift rail mechanism. Other than that, I have a 87 4 speed that came out of a two wheel drive truck. I would take less than $150 for either. As for your question, it is always easier to replace it with what you already have due to driveshaft and crossmember issues.

There's also clutch issues. your truck is set up for the ^%$$#W annular slave cylinder built into the throwout bearing. Adapting to a tranny and bellhousing designed for a mechanical linkage or an external slave cylinder will take some fabricating and/or re-plumbing.
