mechanical gauges

can someone please explain how mechanical gauges work...specifically oil pressure. I'm just curious as to how they hook up and what the pro's or con's are to using one instead of the electrical stock type.

ty for any help

mechanical gauges have plastic or copper lines that send fluids to the gauge so it can read the pressures and temps. factory gauges just show whether the pressures and temps are within the safety ranges.

I'll give you a con of a mechanical oil pressure guage.
If the line springs a leak or a connection fails you can get a lot of motor oil in the cab.

They are more accurate, but it you don't follow the installation directions, plan on having problems like above. That being said, all I use are mechanical gauges and haven't had a problem with any of them. They are cheaper too.
