1992 F150 engine question
I just purchased a 1992 F150 ext. cab short bed with the 302 5.0L in it. The previous owner blew the motor on it. I have located a replacement, but before I do that I had a question. I have a 289 that was purchased for another project that fell through. How difficult would it be to swap the 302 for the 289. What would need to be done in the swap? Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone done a swap like this before?

The 289, 302 blocks are the same, so it should bolt right up. The difference is internal in the crank and piston diameter. Even the heads, intake etc are interchangable.
On the 289 there might be different castings for accessory location mounting holes in the heads. This is where the difference if any external would be.
The other cousin, the 351W (Windsor not to be confused with the Cleveland or Boss) has almost the same block with the exception of the deck height where the heads are mounted. Again they take the same heads as a 289,302 but the 351W requires a different intake than do it's smaller brothers.
You will probably just need to swap over the electronics, accessories and fuel injection from the '92 302 onto the 289 and awaaaay you go.
