Does your truck have a factory tow package? If so, then it's likely ready for a controller.

The other way to check is if the light connector has a blue wire hooked up. I'm not sure if you have the older 6-prong "star" shape one or the newer 7-prong connector. My old '93 had the star prong connector, my "new" '93 with a tow package rather has a 7-prong roundish one.

See here for info about trailer hookups.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page for info about Ford wiring.

My 1995 F150 has the tow package and was prewired for a controller. There was a connector stashed behind the dash down low near the transmission hump. It also came with a connector with leads that could be wired to the controller. All it takes to install is to plug it in.
