1987 Ford F-150 Manual Trans Question

I have a 87 F-150 with a manual 4 speed with the granny gear. Yesterday all was fine with the shifting. Today, for no explained reason, I can not get it into 4th gear. 3rd gear will grind a bit to. This started all of a sudden with no prior incidents.

What should I check for first. Second if it might be the trans, what type of 4 speed is it, and what truck years will work.

Thanks

If it is a granny gear, it is most likely a NP435. New Process trans. Almost any trans that will bolt up will work, if you don't want the granny.

The bell housing will vary depending on what engine it's bolted to. Since you have the granny gear I assume you have the 4.9 six cylinder?

87 will not have an NP435 it should have a T18 or T19.

That is what I thought, but it is a NP435.
