clear coat

hi i have a 06 f150 black scab and was wondering how the factory clear coat is on these trucks, after wetsanding and buffing my last truck after having it painted i think these stock paint jobs just suck. but a friend of mine said that the clear is really thin from the factory and i would have to be super careful when sanding or buffing it. anyone have any imput? thanks alex

I wouldn't call it super thin, but it's not nearly as thick as most re-spray jobs - which are generally designed to be wet sanded then buffed. The bigger issue might be the UV protection - which is generally in the outer most part of the CC. You can, wet sand and buff, but you'd better be really good, or really lucky. Just my 2 cents.

Don't wetsand the factory clearcoat, but feel free to use any buffing products designed for clearcoat. With the right techniques, equipment, and products, you can get it looking really nice.
