yup, no PVC pipe required for the 2009/2010 F150s because the filter box sits so close to the cold-air vent in the side of the truck.

Previous models benefited from a PVC pipe because the snorkel stuck far enough into the engine compartment that when it was removed there was a large gap between the intake and the cold-air vent in the wall. Thus the intake wound up pulling in mostly hot air form the engine compartment.

 

Quick and painless. I didnt have to undo the MAF sensor (didnt wanna break it, was giving me a hard time). Slightly more growl, free is my kinda thing!

kinda weird that it decreased your mpg but that looks sick!!!!

 

Now since this post is about 3-4 months old how are you guys doing with this mod?

 

my computer say's at least 1mpg

yea that would be nice to post it was in the +, just filled up and it's saying close to and sometimes over 20mpg, happy so far

Thanks for all of the info. I just purchased a 2010 F-150 XLT 4.6l 3v 4X4 and was wondering wether to go with the K&N drop in or "Cold" Air Intake. After reading some of the threads on CAI I think I will skip that part and just do the Gott's Mod. Thanks for doing the step by step on the '09 & '10 model, I was looking for that.

One question: In your opinion, what is the best Air Filter? I personally like K&N but I have heard about this re-useable foam filter. If anyone has tried the foam?

 

Your question is probably better asked in the "Exhaust & Intake Systems" part of the discussion forum.

Asking which air filter is best is something like asking what kind of BBQ is best. You'll get a lot of good answers and things to stay away from. However, when it comes down to it, it's your decision. I've used K&N and AirAid filters on my old truck, but I'm still running the stock paper filter in my 2010. If you really want to see performance gains, get a programmer. Night and day difference in throttle response and low-end power (depending on the tune you get). To get info on those check out the "Chips, Tuners & Programming " section of the forums.

 

just did the mod to my 09 STX... took maybe 5mins... we'll see how well that works for me...

 

does anyone know the part number for the rubber grommets under the air filter box? I took my air filter box out and it only had 1 grommet. Guess someone was slacking at the assembly plant.

I have been following this 'mod' with great interest. I have a 2009 F-150 Platinum 4x4 with 28,000 miles now and need a new air filter (within the next few days hopefully). I was thinking about putting in a K&N filter but also incorporating this Gotts mod. Are most of you also moving away from the stock filter element when you're doing this mod?

Autoanything claims they have the lowest prices on K&N filters and have free shipping. I'm not familiar with the air raid filter system.

LAST QUESTION: Does taking the 'snorkle' out allow more dust & dirt into the filter box?

 

No, but that K&N panel just might.

Fact is, that 12x12 factory paper element outflows the needs of the truck by a very large margin, keeps the air clean, avaoids potential MAF contamination, and may avoid any warranty 'finger-pointing' in the future.

Relacement filters offer ZERO perf benefits.

If you want to use a replacement reusable filter, try the Amsoil EA ones. Non-oiled. Folks on here seem to endorse those.
