Long tube headers VS shorties
4.6 Punisher---you hit the nail on the head!...
I guess a BETTER question that I'm trying to get the answer to is:
What do shorties produce over stock manifolds and what do Long tubes produce over stock manifolds??
I have a exhaust manifold leak and don't want to break the bank. I just want to get the most power I can for my $$$. cause I still need an exhaust!---DirtySCREW

Well, I've heard two guys say ZERO on the shorty's over stock. One of those two did dyno. On the other side, I recall one guy posting shorty's gave him a little bit.
The LT question. It's a definite gainer and cheap as well. You can get LT's for under $300 and High flows are just about free,- if you turn your stock cats into the salvage yard. I got $160 for my stockers, but I've heard of guys here getting 200+ .
You'll have to search it out, it's here.
The very worst thing about LT's is the install lol - Well, unless your equipped and can weld.
Also, Pacesetter and Dynotech LT's are longer than OBX LT's.
To be all they can be , you need a custom tune. - Data-log or Dyno, I think there's Live Wire now as well, not sure how that one works.
Did they ask you nicely, or was it like "you don't want your old exhaust parts do you"
Yea, about a year ago Platinum shot way up, but it wasn't just that,- Palladium and Rhodium (spelling?) were at record prices as well.
Muffler shops AND thieves were making out like bandits at first, haven't heard to much about it lately.
I think I started a thread on it, here, when I cashed mine in.

I did some quick research and shorties provide greater low end power over stockers.

Peak horsepower is slightly increased, but there is more low end grunt. If I can get a cheap set of shorties, I might go that way.

Get it straight, those WERE peak gains. Yes your right here, it was on a nonPI block running a PI swap blah blah, - the point I was making was that nothing was different when swapping shorty headers to LT's accept PEAK #'s.
Guess you might want to ask him yourself or look up his posts. If you don't believe what I posted as well, about my truck, I'll put up the vids and if you can count, you'll be able to verify that as well.

Also 6 seconds is a lot. I am not argueing because I am sure you have the vids. Your truck the way it is would probably run low 16's in the 1/4 mile. So before your long tubes you were likely running what high 22's low 23's, lol. There are a lot of factors that come into play with your trucks performance, temp, humidity, atmospheric pressure etc.
Unless your truck is a show truck most people couldn't care less what their headers look like haha. Shorties are really made for a deeper exhaust note and a better looking repacement over your oem cast iron manifolds. Lts are where it's at. Custom tunes and lts= 30/35
the name, the materials used, the reputation.
I installed Summit Racing shorties (Pacesetter) a few months ago, as an excuse to change 2 broken studs, and they were only $150. It takes long fingers, LOTS of patience, and some muscle to tweak the EGR tube into place. Also used Fel-pro gaskets since the ones that came with headers looked like cheap plastic.
Overall performance is hardly noticeable, if any. Just glad I don't have annoying exhaust leak anymore.

Phatbak---thanks for your reply. This is what I'm afraid of---spending hard earned money and not getting much for it....no matter whether its $150 for the Summits like you have or $4-500 for brand X. I see you have a custom tune from PHP...did you re-tune for you headers? Just curious.-------DirtySCREW

Even if you don't put on headers, a custom tune is well worth the money.
