bed size for bed cover differences?

Greetings! I have a 2012 Super Crew with the 5.5' bed that I'll be swapping in to a 2016 Super Crew with the same 5.5' bed.

I have an existing Lund Genesis Roll up cover that I'm extremely happy with (had the same type on my 05 and 08). Anyone know if the cover fits the 2016?

Beds are different. I'd suggest heading to a dealer and looking at a truck with the bed you want. Will it have the ladder? I think you will find the tailgate is wider. Virtually everything I've seen fits 15-16 only. Make sure you take a tape measure.

I know the Softtopper from my '07 will not work on my '16.

I saw a post on another forum where a guy had taken a bakflip (I think that was the brand) cover off his 2011 and was able to modify it slightly and fit his 2015. So it might be possible.

I can jump in here, I just swapped my '10 supercrew for a '16 and I had a Bakflip that I wanted to use. the company said it would not fit (but offered 10% off a new one) I measured and the new bed is 1/2" wider. So I went to Home Depot and got some aluminum flat bars (36"x 3/4x1/8) and used them as shims. once I had the side to side dialed in, I needed to shorten the front to back frame by about 1 1/2".
Fits pretty good now. The seals don't overlap the bed as far as before, So it may not be as watertight as on the other truck, but its a truck.

I think the main question is whether the cover in question fits over the bed, on top of the bed, or inside the bed.

If it fits over the bed (meaning it wraps around the outside edges) then it is difficult to make it fit.

If it fits on top of the bed (everything sits on the rails) then it is probably the easiest.

If it fits inside the bed you can probably trim/shim as keypilot said.

Either way - take it off before you trade it in. See if you can make it fit, if not you can sell it on craigslist!
