Ford Raptor Gets the Shelby Touch At New York

Shelby brought out the big guns this week for the New York International Auto Show. The 2013 Shelby 1000 might’ve taken the spotlight (it’s a 1200 hp Mustang for chrissakes!), they also put something together for the Raptor fans.

Essentially, the Shelby is a supercharged version of the Raptor. It makes 575 horsepower: that’s a 164 more than it makes stock. They’ve also swapped out the stock exhuast system for a set of Borla pipes. Doubtlessly, it sounds amazing. They’ve also slapped on some 35 inch good years for good measure. Unsurprisingly, the suspension remains untouched. If it ain’t broke…

What is surprising is the cost. Shelby’s products have always carried a high premium in the mustang market, but $18,000 is a lot of money for a supercharger and an exhuast. It might help for resale but… I don’t know if that Shelby brand cache can carry on to the F-150. It’s not a Mustang.

Now, if they went on to make a Shelby Raptor 1000… That’s something I wouldn’t mind ponying up for.
